Photography Outdraws Other Art Media in U.S. With #1 and #2 Exhibits By Attendance

The Art Newspaper recently announced its annual museum-attendance survey for 2012. Two of the three biggest contemporary shows were photography shows: Francesca Woodman at the Guggenheim (3,501 per day), and Cindy Sherman at MoMA, NY (5,700 visitors per day). The third show was Daniel Buren outside Paris' Grand Palais (6,498 per day).

That also meant that in 2012 a photography show outdrew any other art medium in the U.S.

Many observers wonder when museum administrators will recognize the potential for photography, which has often be delegated to a lesser role, to power their institutions forward if given more support.
