About This Image

Henriette Moulier was a French national who was active in the early 1940s and 1950s. She shot urban scenes, primarily around Paris just after the war, and animals. Moulier exhibited at the 6th National Photography exhibition in Paris in 1951 with Robert Doisneau, Willy Ronis, Izis, Brassaï, and René Jacques. Her work appeared in the photography periodicals of the time, including the 1953 Photography Annual.Yves Joly was one of the great puppeteers of the 20th century. He began his work after the end of the Second World War, and instead of traditional puppets, he used all sorts of unusual objects and materials as well. Yves Joly, one of the oldest puppeteers, died May 24, 2013 at the age of 104 years old. The French puppeteer, who left theater for painting since the mid-1970s, was a leading figure in modern puppetry. As he trained with Léon Chancerel’s Comédiens Routiers, he founded his company Les marionettes Yves Joly after the war with his wife Hélène Charbonnier, Dominique Gimet and Georges Tournaire. His creations, a series of short forms for cabaret, where the choice of the forms and materials is significant, were successful: Bristol (1946), Les Mains Seules (1948-1949), Ivresse (1950), Jeux de cartes (1952), Ombrelles et Parapluies (1954). In 1958, the company received a prize at the Festival du Théâtre de marionette in Bucharest for their originality and fantasy.
