About This Image

Signed and dated in ink on face of print and on verso. Photographer's copyright stamp and caption on verso.Czech surrealist photography thrived notably in the years of Stalinist terror in the 1950s, bringing to a head the conflict between the individual and the outside world. Some of the best results in this sphere were then accomplished by Alois Nozicka (born in 1934), a member of the Prague surrealist circle. Their photographs were characterized by "large details” of isolated objects, confusing fragments of walls, dust heaps or natural formations.
