About This Image

French annotations in pencil: "Photography Print provided by Dr. Rey in 1860, antiq. Phoenicia." Louis de Clercq accompanied the archaeologist Alban Emmanuel-Guillaume Rey (1837-1916). The statues were given by Rey to the Louvre in 1860, and can be seen in its collections today. De Clercq was in the Middle East when Rey sent this print, which was done by De Clercq outside the normal editions and is possibly a unique print from his rare Cyprus series. Provenance: Honoré d'Albert.
